We hope to engender within our Club a culture of enjoyment, opportunity, achievement, self development and self worth which stretches far beyond the element of competitive boxing. Within our club development plan we envision numerous opportunities for volunteers to get involved in the Club with a clear path of progression and an organisation which appreciates and therefore retains its valuable volunteer base.
Volunteering Opportunities at Poseidon
There are many opportunities for you to get involved in our Club:
Become a coach - Whether you hold a boxing coaching qualification or are interested in becoming a coach we can offer you opportunities to coach all ages and standards and provide a structured and timetabled coaching training and qualification programme which allows you to develop your personal coaching skills and qualifications.
Become an official - Boxing competitions could not exist without officials. If the physical aspects of the sport do not suit you perhaps you would be interested in becoming an official. We welcome volunteer officials as valuable members of our club and can offer a structured programme of training and development.
Committee membership - Our Club could not run without volunteers who work tirelessley behind the scenes to organise and facilitate Club administration. A list of available Club Officer's positions can be found at the About Us page.
Fundraising support - As we are a registered Community Amateur Sports Club with charitable status we will be holding a number of fundraising and social events to bolster the Club's coffers and provide our members the resources they need to maximise their potential. Such events are labour intensive to organise and any assistance will be gratefully received and involvement promises to be enjoyable and fulfilling.
Club Support - There are many ways to support our Club including attending Club shows, fundraising events, social events, baking a cake for a coffee morning, sponsorship or donating some small change. We are grateful for any support that you offer our Club and promise that your involvement will be enjoyable and appreciated.
Becoming a Volunteer at Poseidon
Poseidon ABC endorses and abides by its Child Protection Policy which aims to ensure that, as far as practicable, our members can enjoy a safe club environment without threat from fear or abuse. Part of this policy dictates that potential volunteers are screened for their suitability to work with children and young people. The process involves the completion of an application form, including the provision of two references, and the requirement to hold an Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure. Once the application form is complete and references are checked, we can assist with the application of a CRB Disclosure. A volunteer introductory pack can be downlowded below.
It is the Club’s intention to appoint a volunteer co-ordinator who is responsible for the recruitment and retention of volunteers. Their role is to identify volunteer needs within the Club, provide support to new and existing volunteers, provide feedback to help people be effective in their roles, provide training where appropriate and maintaining volunteer motivation. We believe that communication with our members and volunteers is key, therefore each new volunteer will receive an information pack including an introductory letter detailing the Club’s ethos, its equity and child protection policy, screening guidelines, task descriptions and volunteer agreement forms. They will also receive regular updates about Club news and volunteers are encouraged to read the website regularly and follow us on facebook and twitter.
